Taegro

Taegro is an approved biofungicide that acts on various fungal diseases across a range of edible crops grown in permanent protection full enclosure, ornamentals and grapevines. Taegro now also has a new approval for use in organic systems.

Taegro is officially approved for use in organic systems. Taegro is a great addition to your organic toolkit, with a good environmental profile and no significant effects on beneficial insects and pollinators, adding another layer of defence against fungal pathogens in organic programmes.

Taegro contains the naturally occurring bacteria Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (strain FZB24) which has threefold anti-fungal action: enhancement of plant defences, production of antimicrobial compounds, and physical protection of the leaf.

Taegro provides control on a range of diseases, including:

• Early blight (Alternaria)
• Botrytis
• Powdery mildew
• Downy mildew

How does Taegro work?

Taegro has three main modes of action:

Induction of plant resistance - Taegro stimulates the activation of the plant immune system, which enhances plant resistance and triggers defence responses.

Production of antimicrobial metabolites - Secretion of antimicrobial compounds which inhibit fungal growth.

Competition - Taegro can colonise and outcompete pathogens on the leaf surface, creating a temporary physical barrier. This restricts the ability of a fungus to colonise and attack a leaf.

How should I use Taegro?

Taegro should be applied prior to disease development. By monitoring the crop regularly, growers can ensure applications are made right time to get the best control of fungal pathogens.

Formulated as a wettable powder, Taegro has an excellent shelf life. As soon as it is mixed with water, the bacteria are activated and produce anti-microbial compounds. This means when sprayed, plants have immediate protection.

Taegro is now officially approved for use in organic systems. Being exempt from MRL classification and safe to beneficial insects, Taegro works well in an integrated pest management (IPMprogramme to help organic growers gain better control of fungal pathogens.

Advantages of Taegro:

• Suitable for organic systems
• Safe for beneficial insects, pollinators and bees
• No phytotoxicity
• Exempt from MRL classification
• Reduces risk of resistance development
• Short harvest interval
• Wide pH and temperature ranges
