Taegro: the broad-spectrum biofungicide

Taegro: A broad-spectrum biofungicide

Taegro is an approved biofungicide that has action on a range of fungal diseases for use across an array of edible crops grown in permanent protection full enclosure, ornamentals and grapevines.

Approved for use in organic systems

As of December 2022, Taegro now has a new approval for use in organic systems, with a good environmental profile and no significant effects on beneficial insects and pollinators, Taegro adds another layer of defence against fungal pathogens in organic programmes.

Suitable for ornamental plants

With a new EAMU as of September 2022, Taegro can also protect ornamental plants against diseases such as Alternaria (Alternaria brassicaicola), Botrytis (Botrytis cinerea), downy mildew (Plasmopara obducens), powdery mildew and sclerotinia (Sclerotinia sclerotium).

How does Taegro benefit plants?

Taegro contains the naturally occurring bacteria Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (strain FZB24) which has a threefold anti-fungal action to aid with:

• Enhancement of plant defences
• Production of antimicrobial compounds
• Physical protection of the leaf

Taegro also benefits plants by

• Producing metabolites with disease suppressing qualities
• Priming the plants disease defence mechanisms
• Competing for space and nutrients

Ant Surrage, Fargro's Technical Development Manager says “We are delighted to add another highly effective biofungicide to organic growers’ toolkits. Taegro will help organic growers protect their crops against a range of foliar diseases in a sustainable way. We look forward to working with growers alongside Syngenta to integrate Taegro into a crop protection programme.”

Daniel Lightfoot, Syngenta’s Commercial Head for Western Europe and Italy SPS adds “This is another great step in Syngenta’s portfolio evolution towards delivering strong IPM strategies for growers. We are really looking forward to working with Fargro and developing this product further for all our customers.”
