Technical Development SpecialistFargro is a leading distributor of bio-controls and agrochemicals to the horticultural sector. Our technical team, made up of IPM specialists and agronomists, work closely with growers to support a wide range of issues such as pest, disease and weed control, nutrition and plant health. The team regularly introduce new plant protection products to the UK horticultural market, making Fargro a leader in this field.
Fargro is looking to recruit a Technical Development Specialist to join our technical team. The successful candidate will work within the technical department at Fargro helping to bring new plant protection solutions to the UK market and technically supporting them.
The successful candidate will be confident, self-motivated with a willingness to learn and a good work ethic. An ability to communicate effectively, with excellent verbal and written skills is essential. An ability to work as a team member is vital as the successful candidate will be required to work across a range of disciplines both within the technical department and with other departments at Fargro as well.
The role will be located at our main offices in West Sussex and will be a split of office based work and field work, depending on the season, requirements for trials etc. The successful candidate will have responsibility for planning, executing and reporting on Fargro's field trials, which are a mix of grower support trials and development trials on products that have yet to hit the market. The role will also involve working closely with suppliers and manufacturers on these products ensuring that they understand the needs of growers and that knowledge transfer up and down the supply chain is efficient and comprehensive.
The successful candidate will need to work closely with other members of the technical team, and Fargro's marketing department, in order to plan and write technical and promotional literature for Fargro's range of exclusive plant protection products. Further to this the role will require the candidate to interact directly with our customers, giving advice and support on these products but also on macro-biological controls and general IPM planning as well. There will be a requirement to subscribe to and develop our technical philosophy around the concept of sales flowing on from the quality of the advice and support we provide to our customers.
The successful candidate should have an eye for detail, good diagnostic and decision making skills and an ability to think critically to solve problems and identify solutions. The role will report directly to the Technical Manager.
Responsibilities• Plan, execute and report on field trials of plant protection products
• Planning and writing technical and marketing literature
• Provide outstanding customer service
• Develop and deliver effective technical presentations
• Represent Fargro at conferences and trade shows
• Develop expertise in our products and services
• Develop skills in selling good service and understanding customer needs
• Develop close contacts with AHDB and other important external organisations
There would be opportunities to be involved in a range of different activities within the technical team and Fargro as a whole.
Qualifications• The candidate will have a biology, horticulture, agriculture or similar degree or equivalent practical experience, with an interest in crop protection
• The candidate will have experience in planning and executing trials
• BASIS qualification is essential for this role (Fargro would fund the successful candidate though the qualification if required)
• A full drivers licence
• Good computer skills (MS Office software etc.)
